Legal and Inquiry Information

Please use the guidelines below to cite DCMR provisions, make inquiries, or determine legality of DCMR publications.

Citation

To cite a particular provision within the DCMR, indicate its title number, followed by the acronym "DCMR," the subtitle, the section, the subsection, the paragraph, and the subparagraph, as applicable.  For example: 18 DCMR A §235.6(a)(4) is subparagraph (4) of paragraph (a) of subsection 6 of section 35 of chapter 2 of subtitle A of title 18 DCMR.

The correct format is: Title#[space]DCMR[space]SUBTITLELETTER[space]§chapter#section#[dot]subsection#(paragraphletter)(subparagraph#)

Inquiries

Address requests for interpretations, explanations, or summaries of any regulations in the DCMR titles to the agency that issued the rules. Address requests for DCMR publication sales information, reference assistance, or advice regarding the legal and technical sufficiency of published regulations to:

Legal Status

The publication of any document within a title of the DCMR creates an understanding, which may be challenged, that the document was duly issued, prescribed, adopted, circulated, or enacted and that the document meets the legal requirements stated in the DC Administrative Procedure Act, Subchapter 3.
